T'Kara Mathis

T’Kara Mathis serves as the High School College Advisor for Region 1 - Minnesota and is excited to support Scholars in navigating the college exploration, application and decision-making process. As a first generation college graduate, she is deeply committed to helping students identify pathways that align with their goals while ensuring they feel supported, informed and confident throughout their journey.

Born and raised in the great state of South Carolina, home of the legendary Southern 500 NASCAR race among other things, T’Kara’s upbringing instilled a deep respect for community, resilience and the transformative power of education. She is a proud graduate of Francis Marion University and the University of South Carolina. Go Patriots! Go Gamecocks! Her experiences in and out of the classroom shaped her passion for student support and thus led to a 10+ years career in academic advising, career counseling and student development within college, university and military spaces. As a military spouse, she also brings firsthand insight into the educational and career benefits associated with military service.

Outside of her professional work, T’Kara values community, leadership and intentional living. She has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to leadership and service through her involvement with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated. She has led initiatives focused on mentoring, member development and event planning and has built strong partnerships that expand access to resources and opportunities for students and their families.

In her spare time, T’Kara enjoys spending time with her spouse and anything that involves art - music, dancing, singing, painting, movies, etc.
